Cathay Pacific Airways is a Hong Kong-based airline company that was founded in 1946. The airline operates both international and regional routes out of its main hub at Hong Kong International Airport. Cathay Pacific is one of the founding members of the Oneworld alliance, and also has codeshare agreements with numerous other airlines.
Cathay Pacific Airways began operations in 1946 as an intra-China airline. It wasfounded by American Roy C. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow. The two men had met earlier while flying for the China National Aviation Corporation (CNAC). Cathay Pacific Airways' first aircraft was a Douglas DC-3, which it used to fly between Hong Kong and Rangoon (now Yangon).
In 1951, Cathay Pacific became the first airline to fly over the Himalayas. The airline began flying to London in 1972, making it the first Asian airline to fly to Europe. Cathay Pacific Airways operates flights to over 160 destinations worldwide, including 37 destinations in Mainland China and 11 destinations in South East Asia. In addition to its main hub at Hong Kong International Airport, the airline also has hubs at Beijing Capital International Airport, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and Singapore Changi Airport.
